Today, we practiced camera shots and angles through telling a story about a specific inanimate object of our choice. The directions were to take 15 photos, using a variety of shots, including an establishing shot and a close-up angle.
When approaching this project, my partner and I chose a pencil. Thinking about everyday objects found in our backpacks, a pencil seemed to be the obvious choice. We wanted to tell the story through this simple object and convey its emotions of being left behind through angles and shots, a more specific one being a point-of-view shot. Each picture that followed the other told the exact story of each movement the pencil made. From falling out of the backpack to facing a near-death experience by being stepped on, the photos told a meaningful story that could be reflected in real life.
I think I did a pretty good job by telling the story of a seemingly mundane object. No one would usually pay much attention to a pencil or see what could be a story in it. Yet through these few photos, a pencil became a star. Each photo represented a different angle and was shot perfectly, I just wish we could've had more variation in the photos. I would have liked to have used more unique shots, rather than just the basic ones.
